1.
Countless possible lives have but one direction. All that begins must end: the only truth we can understand is the one we can’t accept That is why eternity was created: to maintain the illusion of not being able to choose. Eternity was created to keep the illusion Every choice is beyond the point of no return. We love the infinite possibilities even more than we love the future. We love hope more than our possessions. Desire is the missing stars! The sky is more seductive than the world. That is why eternity was created: to keep the illusion What is possible resembles what is real only once it’s accomplished. The past creates the future. Destiny is hatred towards life.
2.
Eternity is fear of change. Eternity is fear of life. Time is the measure of change: if change is loss, time is pain. This is the present: all that we cannot perceive because we are unable to really live it. The present is present only inside of us. These notes are music because they live in time. Nothing remains outside of us. This chaos is for your only This music is for you only
3.
“Now” is dead! There are so many presents in our consciousness. Past and future live inside of us, only in our memory and in what it could be. Words shape the reality and pass through time. Words create relationships and hide what we are. The more the trace comes from within, the freer it is. Freedom hides in the abyss of what you cannot tell. In our consciousness nothing is deterministic. Nothing is the same.
4.
Kingdomless 06:17
We are things among things. To live again till dusk and have a new day to forget. Forgetfulness and inexistence bring the same doom. Life slides away... Pouring water into a veined vase. My castle has been built over ruins. My castle has been built to contain new ruins. Forgetfulness and inexistence are my realm. Without memory there is no future. Without memory there is no consciousness. Without memory there is no relation. Without memory I am a king without a kingdom.
5.
Each word, sapiently outlined, drapes the delicate impressions of our consciousness. Each word is the key to enter the stories of others and to leave our own inheritance. Each word nullifies the consciousness of our emotions. Sentiments are made of those moments that can’t live anywhere else but there. Drops of water are not a storm. “Nothing” is our judgment for what could have given meaning to our time.
6.
Undefined, neither dead nor alive, in this grey zone, inside the vertices, outside all borders, I am the part containing the whole. All that begins must end... It’s all that we understand: white and black. The grey zone is so full of emptiness. Uncountable possible lives, waiting to live but one. Destiny is fear. Day after day, cells after cells, I am losing my life. Down to the very last grain of my own self I am every single part of myself. I am the part containing the whole.

"A vision of tension that sways between the subtly psychedelic and the traversing infinite" (Black Metal Daily)

"everything you could want from avant-garde metal – dramatic atmospherics, a tense pace, unsettling riffs and vocals wrenched from the depths of despair" (Metalmance)

“The Grey Zone Phobia” is the fifth release by Avantgarde Black Metal project DERHEAD.

After the critically acclaimed “Irrational I”, Derhead is back with its very own distinctive take on Avantgarde Black Metal, this time contaminated by an incredibly heterogeneous range of sounds spacing from Doom / Gothic Metal to what Satyricon released during the Rebel Extravaganza era.

Much like with the precedent EP, “The Grey Zone Phobia” offers a meditation about the contrasting nature of our place within the cogwheels of time, leading us to contemplate the contrast between reality and our inner self, and between memories and dreams.
Lyrics draw inspiration from various sources including the work by analytic philosophers such as Henri Bergson, relativity studies and fuzzy logic, and far from proposing ready-made answers they in fact underline the complexity of our existence, inviting us to go beyond the apparent dichotomy of black and white and on to face the “grey area”, which ultimately is life itself.

The fantastic original artwork made by Cesare Bignotti (who also lent his vision to the previous two releases of Derhead) further expands upon the main themes of the album: images have been taken with a long exposure technique similar to what was used with Dadaist and Futurist photography, and films developed without any artificial effects in post-production, in order to tell an honest and transparent story about the place we as human beings occupy within the abstract instance known as Time.

“The Grey Zone Phobia” is a multifaceted album that does not try to be forcibly eccentric, but flows effortlessly mixing raw and aggressive riffs with the epic grandeur of more sophisticated and slower parts, keeping listeners on the edge of their seats for its whole duration.
